Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades picked up a 4-3 overtime win in their pre-season opener over the Toledo Storm on Thursday night at Germain Arena.
In a game where special teams dominated, the Everblades scored at 1:39 of overtime when Jeremy Swanson jammed a rebound past Storm net-minder Mike Brown for the victory.
The back-and-forth game featured a total of five power play goals between the teams. The 'Blades opened the scoring with a pair of first period power play tallies by rookie Stefan Meyer at 2:02 and Swanson at 12:56. Toledo notched their first power play goal of the night when Ken Magowan slipped a shot past Everblades goalie Phil Osaer at 16:06 of the opening frame.
The Storm tied the game midway through the second period on an even-strength goal by Barrett Ehgoetz at 8:38, but the Everblades answered that goal with one of their own just minutes later when Ernie Hartlieb knocked home Florida's third power play goal of the night at the 13:00 mark. Before the second period ended, Toledo once again managed to tie the game on Ehgoetz's second goal of the night, this time with Toledo holding the man-advantage with 4:50 remaining in the period.
Neither team tallied in the second period, sending the game to overtime. At the 1:28 mark of overtime, coincidental minors were whistled against each team, setting up the three-on-three game-winner for Swanson.
In goal, Osaer picked up the win in goal for the Everblades, stopping 36 of 39 shots faced, while Brown earned a tie between the pipes for the Storm after turning away 19 of 23 shots. Florida closed out the night 3-for-4 on the power play, while the Storm converted on two of their seven power play chances.
The Everblades and Storm face-off again on Friday night, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. from Germain Arena. The 'Blades open the regular season on Friday, October 21 vs. the Las Vegas Wranglers at 7:30 p.m. from Germain Arena.
