Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - Four different goal scorers helped the Fresno Falcons defeat the Stockton Thunder, 4-2, on Wednesday at Gateway Ice Center in the 2005-06 pre-season opener for both clubs.
Following a scoreless first period, the Falcons struck twice within a minute on the same power play early in the second period while Stockton attempted to kill off a major penalty. J.F. Plourde dumped in a rebound at 4:31, and Shawn Weiman gave Fresno a 2-0 lead at 5:03. Mike Lalonde got the visitors on the board off a loose puck in front at 8:46 to cut Fresno's lead in half as the teams skated to the third period.
The Falcons took another two-goal advantage at 4:46 of the third when Brett Hammond scored the eventual game-winner. Former Falcon Mike Kiesman again sliced the lead to one with Stockton's second power play goal of the game mid-way through the final period, but Pete Fregoe wristed home an insurance goal top shelf just more than a minute later to secure the 4-2 victory.
Fresno netminders Brett Jaeger and Jamie Holden combined to make 26 saves in the winning effort.
Fresno plays the second of three pre-season games on Saturday, Oct. 15, against the Bakersfield Condors at Rabobank Arena before returning to Gateway Ice Center for another clash with Stockton on Sunday, Oct. 16, for its final tune-up before the start of the regular season. Sunday's game begins at 5 p.m. and costs $5 for general admission seats. Following the game, all of the Falcons players will meet with fans and sign autographs in Gateway Ice Center's lobby.
