San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - After a long offseason, it's time to officially drop the puck! The re-tooled San Diego Gulls are officially ready for game-action as they'll host a trio of games this weekend at the San Diego Ice Arena in Mira Mesa.
Friday (7:30 p.m. start) and Saturday (5 p.m. start) the Blue and Orange will take on one of the newest members of the ECHL, the Phoenix Roadrunners. Phoenix, which will play in the National Conference's West Division, has two former Gulls on its squad: Mathieu Chouinard and Dean Tiltgen. Chouinard was San Diego's backstop last season, while Tiltgen played for the Gulls in 2002-03 and 2003-04.
Sunday (3:30 p.m.), the Gulls will welcome long-time rival, the Bakersfield Condors. 2005-06 will mark the 11th year that these two teams have clashed and the third in the ECHL. Former Gull standout Kevin St. Jacques returns to Bakersfield this season, while Mark Pederson takes over as the Condors' assistant coach. Pederson played with San Diego from 2002-2005 and led the Blue and Orange to the 2003 West Coast Hockey League Championship.
Tickets for all three games are still available. They are $5 each and can be purchased through the San Diego Ice Arena. To purchase tickets, contact the SDIA at 858-530-1825.
Any Gulls season ticket holder can purchase tickets for the first two games (Friday and Saturday) and get admission to the third game free (Sunday). This MUST be purchased through the Gulls' office by Friday. To take advantage of this special season ticket holder deal, call 619-224-GOAL ext. 7.
Seating for all three games will be on a first-come-first serve basis.
There has also been a special addition to Saturday's contest against Phoenix. Immediately following the game, fans are invited to take the ice for a special edition of "Skate After the Gulls." Skate rentals will be free.
