Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - The Las Vegas Wranglers scored four times in the first period to pace a 5-3 victory over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 4,538 fans at Centennial Garden on New Year's Eve.
The Wranglers came out firing on all cylinders, swarming around the Condors zone for the majority of the period. They had 15 shots on goal and a 3-0 lead on the scoreboard before Bakersfield took their first shot. They scored four times in the opening frame and held a 22-7 shot lead after 20 minutes. Dan Tudin had a goal and two assists in the first for Las Vegas.
Yutaka Fukufuji replaced Randy Petruk to start the second period, which started out as a complete turn of the tide. Bakersfield rattled off three straight goals to make a game of it. Leading in shots 15-2 through the first 11 minutes of the middle frame, the Condors had goals from Dennis Shiryaev, Connor James and Paul Rosebush to make it 4-3. Just moments after pulling within a goal, Bakersfield took a penalty which led to the Wranglers third power play tally and a 5-3 Vegas lead.
Neither team was able to light the lamp in the third period, while the penalties mounted. A major skirmish developed with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation as Regan Darby from the Wranglers, left his own bench to challenge the Condors Daniel Kim in front of the Bakersfield bench. It exploded into a mêlée that included 70-minutes in penalties. Petruk suffered the loss between the pipes for Bakersfield while Marc Magliarditi stopped 47 shots for the Wranglers.
Tomorrow the Condors ring in the New Year with another match against the Las Vegas Wranglers, starting at 7:00 p.m. The first 2,000 adults will receive a Condors drink pitcher, sponsored by KUZZ 107.9 and Pepsi. It will be the last Condors home game for two weeks, when Vegas comes to town again on Saturday, January 15th. The Condors are on the road for 10 of their 14 games during the month of January.
Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden box office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location.
