ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (18-12-1) picked up a shutout from goaltender Rob Zepp to help sweep a weekend series from the Charlotte Checkers (17-13-2) with a 3-0 win on Saturday night at Germain Arena.
Zepp stopped all 23 shots he faced to collect his first shutout of the season, and the team's second of the year. Zepp turned away 10 shots in the first period, six in the second and seven in the final frame to win his second straight, and bring his record to 4-1-0 in his last five games.
Brandon Coalter, Tim O'Connell and Ryan Brindley provided the offense for the 'Blades who have won three straight games.
Coalter's third goal of the season came early in the second period when he redirected a pass from Kris Vernarsky past Charlotte net-minder Alex Westlund. O'Connell slipped a shot through Westlund eight minutes into the third period, and Brindley sealed the victory with a power play goal at 12:06 of the final period.
Zepp's win brought his record to 7-7-0, while Westlund saw his record fall to 9-9-2 after allowing the three goals on 28 Florida shots. The Everblades finished the night 1-for-3 on the power play, while Charlotte closed out the night 0-for-2 on the man advantage.
Florida begins a four-game road trip on Tuesday, January 4 when they travel to Columbia, SC to take on the Columbia Inferno at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday's game will be broadcast over the internet only.
