Pride top Lynx, 7-4, on New Year's Eve
January 1, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
The Augusta Lynx couldn't keep pace with the firepower of the Pride in Pee Dee on New Year's Eve in a 7-4 loss to wrap up the 2004 calendar segment of the schedule.
Only three goals were scored through the first two periods, beginning with a late power play goal at 19:29 of the first by Gregg Johnson to give the Pride a 1-0 after 20 minutes. Augusta came back in the second with a man-advantage marker of its own to tie the game at 1-1 from Brian Passmore, who tipped in a Louis Goulet point shot for his first goal of the night. Ken Magowan also added a helper on the goal. Allan Sirois responded just 54 seconds later for Pee Dee from Tony Johnson and Tyler Kindle and the game headed to the second period intermission 2-1 in favor of the Pride.
Third period action is where offense took over the game. Augusta tied the game on Passmore's second goal of the night just 1:05 into the stanza, but Jeff Szwez recorded his first on the night at 3:19 to make it 3-2 Pee Dee. Augusta came back at 4:07 with a shorthanded marker from Matt Dzieduszycki to tie the game once more, but Kindle and Szwez would tally again to make it 5-3 before Todd Bennett helped Augusta go 2-for-2 on the power play by deflecting a Lawne Snyder point drive past Nick Boucher. Passmore notched his third point of the night on the goal as well. Szwez, however, would score twice more before the end of the game, the final marker into an empty net to cement a 7-4 win for Pee Dee.
Matus Kostur stopped a season-high 42 shots in the loss for the Lynx, while Boucher turned aside 31 shots to earn the win and break a four-game losing streak for the Pride. Augusta will be back in action on New Year's Day against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:35 pm, with pre-game show starting at 7:05 pm on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
