Gwinnett's Brown Will Play ECHL Record 679th Game Saturday

PRINCETON, N.J. – Gwinnett left wing Cam Brown will become the ECHL career games played leader on Saturday when he takes the ice for his 679th league game at Augusta. Brown will break the record of Rod Taylor, who played in 678 career ECHL games from 1991-2003 with Hampton Roads, Peoria, Richmond, Roanoke, South Carolina and Toledo.

The 35-year-old Brown has played in all 28 games for Gwinnett and leads the team with three game-winning goals and ranks fourth with 11 goals.

It is the second career record this season for Brown, who became the ECHL career penalty minute leader in November. Brown, who has 2,273 career penalty minutes, broke the record of Brian Goudie, who had 2,253 penalty minutes in 11 ECHL seasons with Hampton Roads, Pee Dee, Richmond and Florida from 1992-2003.

Brown has played his last nine seasons in the ECHL and has played in the league in 12 of his 14 professional seasons. He stepped off the ice and behind the bench to coach Baton Rouge in 2002-03, returning to the ice with Gwinnett in 2003-04, scoring 41 points (20g-21a) in 72 regular season games and seven points (2g-5a) in 13 Kelly Cup Playoff games.

Brown has 464 points (194g-270a) and 2,273 penalty minutes in 678 career regular season ECHL games and 17 points (10g-7a) and 127 penalty minutes in 28 career ECHL playoff games. In his 14 seasons as a professional, he has 504 points (212g-292a) and 2,735 penalty minutes in 861 regular season games and 17 points (10g-7a) and 151 penalty minutes in 36 playoff games.
