Atlanta Gladiators News Release

With his first shift during the opening period, Cam Brown set a new all time ECHL career games played record appearing in his 679th career ECHL game breaking Rod Taylor's previous mark, but it wasn't enough to help the Gladiators past the Augusta Lynx in a 4-3 loss on Saturday night in Augusta.

Chris Durno opened the scoring one second after a Gladiators power play expired as he picked up a rebound along the goal line and flipped the puck over the shoulder of Augusta netminder Jason Saal. Rick Emmett took a pass from Joe Bourne and fired the initial shot on Saal to set up the goal at 9:18 of the opening period.

Augusta capitalized on the power play to tie the game at 1-1 midway through the first period. Todd Bennett rolled the puck past Gladiators netminder Sean Fields in the slot for the tally. Louis Goulet and Saal added the assists on the goal at 11:17 of the opening period.

Bennett gave the Lynx a 2-1 lead on Augusta's second power play opportunity of the game. Bennett again picked up the puck in the slot and rolled the puck past Fields for the tally. Ken Magowan and Jamie Johnson picked up the assists on the Lynx power play goal at 12:55 of the opening period.

August extended its lead to 3-1 on Sean Connolly's slap shot from the right wing point that beat Fields over the left shoulder. Jamie Johnson and Jim Shepherd added the assists on the goal at 7:53 of the first period.

Gwinnett cut into the Augusta lead at 10:13 of the second period. Kris Goodjohn picked up an assist as he dumped the puck around the boards where the puck took a Gladiators bounce and skipped into the slot to a waiting Campell. Chris Durno also picked up an assist on the goal for the Gladiators.

Matt Dzieduszycki pushed the Augusta lead back to two goals jamming a centering pass into an open net as Fields got caught out of his net with 58 seconds left in the second period. Shepherd picked up an assist throwing the puck into the slot to Dzieduszycki. Johnson also had an assist on the tally.

Gwinnett cut the lead to one goal on Durno's second tally of the night jamming the puck past Saal 3:04 into the third period but the Gladiators could get no closer. Durno tallied the goal unassisted.

With the loss, Gwinnett falls to 16-9-4 on the season as Sean Fields made 17 saves for Gwinnett while the Gladiators top ranked penalty kill gave up two power play goals in the loss.
