Colts Fall Short on the Road against Knights
January 10, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Barrie Colts News Release
The new-look Barrie Colts were on the road tonight against the London Knights after a busy week with the trade deadline. The Colts were coming off a loss last night to the Sudbury Wolves and were looking to bounce back in their second game of a three-in-three. Prior to the game, the Colts announced Luke Bignell as the new captain of the team, replacing Jason Willms, who was in the lineup tonight for London.
In the first period it was the London Knights with the only goal. Ryan Merkley scored five-hole on Arturs Silovs on the powerplay to make it 1-0.
In the second period it was the new captain, Luke Bignell, finding the back of the net on a redirect-shot to tie the game at one. Connor Punnett and Evan Vierling added the assists, each collecting their first point as Barrie Colts on the goal. After that, it was Matvey Guskov restoring the Knights one-goal lead on a hard shot from the low slot. The Colts would have a chance on the powerplay late in the frame, and it was Aidan Brown converting on it. Ethan Cardwell and Josh Nelson added the assists, each of them also registering their first points as members of the Colts.
The London Knights came out flying in the third period with two goals in the first nine minutes. First it was Alec Regula and then Ryan Merkley, putting the Knights up 4-2. The Colts would have a chance on the powerplay late in the third, and pulled Silovs for the 6 on 4 opportunity, but it was Liam Foudy scoring on the empty net to secure the Knights victory.
The final score in the game was 5-2 London.
The Barrie Colts are back in action tomorrow night as they host the Kitchener Rangers.
