Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Calgary, Alberta - Jason Colson had four hits including a home run and two doubles and Willie Glen threw eight strong innings to lead the Gary SouthShore RailCats to a 6-2 win over the Calgary Vipers on Saturday. The win was the RailCats third straight and improved their overall record to 30-23 (3-2 in the second half).

The game featured a first inning unassisted triple play by Calgary second baseman Pedro Santana. With Anthony Iapoce at second, Scott Samuels at first, and Ben Risinger at the plate, Santana enjoyed one of baseball's rarest feats. With both runners moving on the pitch and Santana heading to second base to cover the bag, Risinger lined a bullet up the middle right at Santana, who stepped on second and tagged Samuels to retire the side.

Colson blasted a long home run off the scoreboard in right center field in the second inning to give the RailCats a 1-0 lead. It was his eighth of the season and second in two nights in Calgary.

Calgary scored their only two runs in the fifth off Glen, collecting three consecutive hits with one out to take a 2-1 lead.

But the RailCats tied the game in the sixth when Scott Samuels walked with one out, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Ben Risinger's sacrifice fly to right.

Tanner Townsend drilled a tie-breaking home run in the seventh, his eighth of the season and second of the series, to give Gary a 3-2 lead.

Risinger singled with one out in the eighth, went to second on a hit by Colson, and scored on Steve Haake's single to right to make it 4-2.

Gary added two more runs in the ninth when Jay Pecci singled, went to second on a sacrifice by Eric McNamee, and scored on Anthony Iapoce's double. Iapoce scored on Colson's RBI single to make it 6-2.

The two clubs close out the series Sunday at 2:35 PM CDT. Jamie Bennett (4-2, 4.18) will start for the RailCats against Calgary's Doug Johnson (4-1, 4.06). The RailCats are 3-2 on the six game Canadian road trip heading into Sunday's finale
