Sioux City beats Edmonton

The Sioux City Explorers sent eight batters to the plate in the ninth inning and scored three runs to defeat the Edmonton Cracker-Cats 10-7 Saturday night at TELUS Field. All three runs were scored off Edmonton relief ace Jim Harrison. Harrison (7-2) worked two innings allowing three runs on five hits with a base on balls.

The 2-3 Explorers scored their 10 runs on 14 hits and played superb defensive baseball committing no errors. Six of the Sioux City runs came in the fifth inning when they sent 10 batters to the plate. Left-handed pitcher Billy Keppinger (1-4), pitched 2.1 innings allowing one run on four hits to earn the win. Right-hander Sean Kramer came out of the bullpen in the ninth to record his 14th save of the season.

The 3-2 Cracker-Cats scored the seven runs on 14 hits and committed two errors. Newcomer Jeff Waldron went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and a run scored. Jeremy Ware, Derek Patterson, Brandon Kaye and Kyle Leon all had two-hit nights. Third baseman Chris Hall knocked his fourth home run of the year in the sixth inning to bring the ‘Cats back to within one run at the time.

The series wraps up Sunday afternoon with right-handed pitcher Brandon Tam (0-0) going for Edmonton, right-hander JC Huguet (4-4) will oppose for Sioux City.
