Edmonton Capitals News Release

The Sioux City Explorers scored an unearned run in the top of the 13th inning to defeat the Edmonton Cracker-Cats 7-6 in a four hour 42 minute marathon Sunday afternoon at TELUS Field. Edmonton had the bases loaded in the 11th and 12th innings with out out but couldn't muster a run. The 3-3 Explorers scored the game winning run off Edmonton left-hander Aric Van Gaalen (1-5) who pitched the final two innings of the game.

Jonathan Wiebe (2-1), the fifth pitcher of the day for the Explorers, pitched his way out of a bases loaded jam in the 12th and first and third jam in the 13th to record the win after two innings of work. Edmonton right-hander Scott Richmond came in to throw four innings of shutout ball allowing only two hits over the span.

Kyle Leon led the way for the 3-3 Edmonton Cracker-Cats bolting out his seventh and eighth home runs of the season and picked up three runs batted in on the day. Left fielder Casey Baker led the way for Sioux City with a 6-for-7 day at the plate with four RBI, including the game winning run.

Both teams are now idle for the three-day All-Star break. The Cracker-Cats will travel to Winnipeg following the All-Star break for a four-game set against the Goldeyes.
