New York Boulders News Release

RAMAPO, New York - A five-run seventh inning put the Pittsfield Colonials ahead for good as they defeated the Rockland Boulders on Friday night, 12-5, in Can-Am League action.

Michael Gardner started the seventh for the Boulders, but he quickly loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a hit-by-pitch. Brett Carroll then came in to try to limit the damage, but a two-error play allowed three runs to score. Two straight singles followed to bring in another run. Jerod Edmondson capped off the five run inning with an RBI single to give the Colonials a 9-4 lead.

Mike Richard reached base to start the first for the Boulders after being hit by a pitch. He then swiped second for his second stolen base of the season. He moved over to third on Cole Kraft's groundout, and then scored on Jeremy Slayden's sacrifice fly to deep right to give the Boulders the first run of the game. Ryan Mollica later reached first on an error by third baseman Johnny Welch, allowing Sean Smith to score and give the Boulders the early 2-0 edge.

The Colonials (24-21) got those two runs back in the top of the second, after Peter Fatse plated Angel Molina from third on a sacrifice fly to left. Chris Torres followed with a single to bring Billy Mottram home.

The Boulders took the lead back in the home half of the third on Scott Clement's double off the left field wall that brought Cristobal Santana around to score.

Once again, the Colonials quickly tied the game. Torres stood on second base when Rafael Cabreja doubled to right-center, bringing him in for the third Pittsfield run.

Rockland immediately took the lead back once again in the bottom of the fourth. Slayden knocked in his third run as a Boulder with an RBI single that scored Mike Richard from second and gave the Boulders a 4-3 advantage.

John Muller made his first relief appearance of the season in the sixth inning. He struggled, though, hitting a batter with a pitch and giving up an RBI single to tie the game at four runs apiece.

With the Boulders down five in the eighth, Kraft hit the first ever inside-the-park home run at Provident Bank Park. Pittsfield left fielder Billy Mottram tried to make a diving catch down the left field line, but failed to make the play and the ball rolled into the Colonials' bullpen. The speedy Kraft was hustling the whole way and came in standing to score the fifth Boulder run.

Molina added the 10th and 11th runs for the Colonials in the top of the ninth with a two-RBI single off Jon Shepard. Mottram then singled in Welch to make the score 12-5.

The Boulders (19-26) will host the rubber match with the Pittsfield Colonials Saturday night at Provident Bank Park. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.

Casey Hodges (3-4) will take his turn in the rotation Saturday night. He will go head-to-head Pittsfield's Patrick Moran (4-3).
