Visa Issues Keep Tetsu Nishikawa From Joining Brockton Club

Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, Mass. - Righthanded pitcher Tetsu Nishikawa is currently under contract with the Brockton Rox of the Can-Am League. However, rather than pitching for the club, Nishikawa is currently at home in Kyoto, Japan, with his glove and a plane ticket to Boston. A visa for his translator and the club's bullpen catcher/assistant coach, Takashi Miyoshi, was obtained; Miyoshi is currently in Brockton with the team, with nobody to translate for.

The club found out this week that Nishikawa's visa application had been turned down May 20. "We had been checking almost daily with the proper agencies, and have even had congressmen working on it. To find out now that it had been turned down in May has us completely baffled," said Rox CEO Chris Carminucci. The team had purchased t-shirts honoring the victims of the recent Japan earthquake, produced by Under Armor, to wear during spring training as a welcome for Nishikawa.

With the Can-Am League season now nearly half over, the club is still hoping that someone will step in to help.

Most recently, Nishikawa pitched for the Melbourne Aces of the Australian Baseball League, compiling a 3.05 ERA. Previously, he was an all-star pitcher for Kobe in Japan's Kansai Independent League.
