Mississippi Braves News Release

Pearl, MS - The Mississippi Braves announce that RHP Kyle Cofield will start the 2009 Southern League All-Star game for the South Division. He will join teammates JC Boscan and Matt Young in the starting lineup.

Cofield, a native of Gadsden, AL, will get the nod and pitch a scheduled one inning. The 6'5" righty has posted a 5-2 record with a 3.13 ERA for the M-Braves. He will replace Birmingham's John Ely who will miss the start due to his start on Friday night against the M-Braves.

He was an eighth round selection in the 2005 draft and this will mark his second straight all-star appearance as he played in the Carolina League's All-Star game in 2008 as a member of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

The game will be played on Monday, July 13th at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham. The M-Braves four selections (three attending) in the all-star game are the most since 2007 when the Braves had 10 players and the entire coaching staff in the game at Trustmark Park.
