Jaxx Push Win Streak to Eight Games on Thursday

JACKSON, TENN. (July 9, 2009) - The Diamond Jaxx (13-5) win again on Thursday night sending the winning streak to eight straight games. West Tenn knocks off the Mobile Bay Bears (9-8) 3 to 1 in front of 2,209 at Pringles Park. The Jaxx are now 8-1 in July and extend the lead in the North Division to four and a half games over Chattanooga. The win streak is the longest in the league and gives the Jaxx the most wins in the league. Greg Halman delivers for the Jaxx again with two RBI's in the fifth pushing his RBI total to 52 on the season, good enough for fourth in the league.

Greg Halman delivers again on Thursday night at Pringles Park. His 2-RBI double bring in Jimmy Mojica and Mel Stocker spotted the Jaxx a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

With the Jaxx leading 2-0, in the top of the sixth, Nick Hill came on in relief of Luis Munoz (3-4). Hill escaped a bases loaded nobody out jam by fanning Ricardo Sosa and getting a 6-4-3 inning ending double play from Matt Tupman.

Luis Munoz worked five shutout innings for the Jaxx earning the win. He scattered four hits while striking out five and walking three. Nick Hill in relief for the Jaxx earned his team leading fifth hold of the season. Hill went 2.1 innings giving up one run on one hit while striking out two and walking two.

The Diamond Jaxx pushed across another run in the bottom of the sixth when Mel Stocker was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Leyson Septimo on in relief of Jarrod Parker (4-4), gave up a base hit and walked a batter while plunking one and striking out four in the inning. Jarrod Parker takes the loss and is now 1-1 against the Jaxx this season. The former ninth overall pick in 2007 gave up two runs on three hits in the outing.

The BayBears finally got on the board by getting an RBI groundout from Pedro Ciriaco against Nick Hill in the seventh. The BayBears were 0-12 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base.

Anthony Varvaro nailed it down in the ninth earning his fifth save of the season and his third in as many outings. Varvaro went 1.2 innings striking out four and walking two in the appearance.

The Jaxx once again hope to extend their winning streak even further on Friday night. RHP Luis Pena (1-0, 3.86) tosses for the Jaxx, making his second start since coming of the DL. RHP Wes Roemer (4-5, 3.58) who was pushed back to Friday's start goes for the BayBears.
