Ontario Clippers News Release
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - The Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario (2-4) defeat the South Bay Lakers (2-6) in overtime, 125-120, on Tuesday night.
Down 10 points with 3:29 left to play in regulation, South Bay went on a 12-2 run to tie the game at 118, thanks to a fast break layup by Jemerrio Jones with 38 seconds to go. That basket would end up sending the game into overtime, as the Clippers had three attempts to win the game, but failed to capitalize. Agua Caliente did not let their players' big performances go to waste and held on to win it in the extra minutes.
The Clippers had two 30-point performances, with Jamel Artis scoring 32 and two-way player Johnathan Motley with 35. Motley also finished with 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season and added six assists, three blocks, and two steals. Fellow two-way player Angel Delgado also recorded a double-double, his fourth of the campaign, with 15 points and 21 rebounds, tying Alan Williams of the Long Island Nets for the most rebounds in a game this season.
Both teams were evenly matched throughout the night, exchanging leads 12 times and tying 12 times, including at the end of regulation. South Bay led by as many as eight points with 3:28 the second quarter but saw their lead quickly dwindle as Agua Caliente retook the lead just under 2 minutes into the second half. Agua Caliente would end up leading by as much as 10 late in the fourth quarter.
The Lakers had three players record double-doubles. Two-way player Johnathan Williams finished with 21 points and 16 rebounds, forward Jemerrio Jones scored 16 points and led the team with 16 rebounds, and guard Scott Machado added 22 points to go along with 11 assists. Joel Barry II led South Bay in scoring with 26.
The Agua Caliente Clippers will return home after Thanksgiving to face the Northern Arizona Suns on Saturday, Nov. 24. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif.
