Vipers Gobble up Red Claws to Extend Home Victory Streak to Four

EDINBURG, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (5-3) continue to stay undefeated at home after a comeback win against Maine Red Claws (2-5), 94-91.

The Vipers spread the ball around evenly as four players collected at least two points in the first. Dakarai Tucker led the charge with six of his own. On the other end of the court, Marcus Georges-Hunt took the reins on offense as he grabbed 11 points of his own to help the Red Claws manage a 21-14 lead at the end of one.

The second quarter told a different story as the Vipers struck for 29 points, outscoring the Red Claws. RGV tied the game late in the quarter but Maine squeezed a couple of points by to maintain their lead going into the break 45-43.

Bruno Caboclo led the Vipers with 11 points at the half, closely followed by Tucker with nine of his own. The Maine scoring effort was split between Georges-Hunt who racked up 19 points and PJ Dozier with 13 points.

An evenly matched third quarter kept both teams in the hunt. Angel Rodriguez silently collected four steals and added eight assists by the end of the period. Rodriguez hit both of his shots from the charity stripe to give the Vipers their first lead of the game, 64-42, at the 4:03 mark. Maine managed to reclaim the lead going into the quarter break, 75-69.

Georges-Hunt continued to be the primary scorer for the Red Claws with 25 points. Walter Lemon Jr. crept into the offensive conversation as he tallied 14 points of his own accompanied by five steals.

RGV went ahead by six as they led 84-78 at the 7:05 mark of the fourth, their biggest lead of the night at that point. A high energy squad came out in the final period for the Vipers as they stole the show and closed out the night with the big win to extend their home win streak to four. Michael Frazier and Rodriguez ended the night with a double-double apiece. Caboclo was just two points shy of the scoring lead with 22 points. Tucker was the big man of the night on offense with 24 points marking his season-high.
