Clippers Sweep Railriders With Win
May 21, 2013 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release
By beating Scranton/Wilkes Barre 5-1 at Huntington Park, the Clippers completed the four game sweep over the RailRiders and drove their win streak to seven games.
Clippers right-hander Carlos Carrasco and RailRiders righty Chien-Ming Wang kept each team off the scoreboard through five innings. In the top of the sixth, Scranton made a bid to get on the scoreboard with a Thomas Neal single. Fortunately for Columbus, Dan Johnson overran the second base bag, enabling Columbus center fielder Matt Carson to throw to second where Neal was tagged out before a run could score.
In the bottom half of the sixth, Columbus finally broke the scoreless tie with a Ryan Rohlinger RBI double off the left-center field wall. The Clippers would tack on another run in the bottom of the seventh when Chun Chen scored from third on a Chase Whitely wild pitch. Columbus would follow that up with a big inning in the bottom of the eighth as three runs crossed the plate on RBI singles by Rohlinger, Chris Wallace and Ezequiel Carrera.
Carrasco (W, 2-0) pitched well on the mound despite dealing with a ton of baserunners. The Venezuelan righty struck out six and walked two while blanking the RailRiders on six hit in six innings of work. Wang (L, 2-4) took the loss for Scranton. Preston Guilmet (S, 14) tallied another save for Columbus.
After an off-day on Wednesday, the Clippers will return to action on Thursday night as they welcome in the Syracuse Chiefs for four games at Huntington Park. Columbus will tab lefty T.J. House (1-2, 5.22) as their starter on the mound. The Chiefs will counter with right-hander Ryan Perry (1-4, 7.68). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
