Clippers Push Win Streak to Six
May 21, 2013 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release
Columbus never quit as they earned a hard fought 6-5 win in ten innings over Scranton/Wilkes Barre at Huntington Park.
The RailRiders were the first team to get on the board in the top of the third. Josh Bell drove home a run with RBI infield single. Thomas Neal then added to his club's lead with a three run double down the left field line.
Staring at a 4-0 deficit, the Clippers tried to rally. Chun Chen got it going with a solo homer, his first in a Columbus uniform, in the bottom of the fourth. Unfortunately, the RailRiders got that run back in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by Melky Mesa.
The bottom of the seventh proved to be key for Columbus. Omir Santos drove home a run with an RBI single. Ezequiel Carrera then did his part with an RBI double. Lonnie Chisenhall had the most clutch hit of all with a two out, two run single to right that tied the game at 5-5.
It would stay that way until the bottom of the tenth inning. With runners on first and second, Chen came through for the Clippers with an RBI single to left field, giving the Clippers their sixth straight win and an opportunity for the four game sweep on Tuesday. Jerry Gil (W, 5-0) was awarded the win for Columbus. Josh Spence (L, 0-1) suffered his first loss of the season for the RailRiders.
Scranton/Wilkes Barre and Columbus bring down the curtain on their four game series on a Business Day Special on Tuesday. A pair of talented right-handers will face off on the mound as RailRiders hurler Chien-Ming Wang (2-3, 3.29) duels with Clippers flamethrower Carlos Carrasco (1-0, 1.60). First pitch is scheduled for 10:35 AM.
