Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Yu Chang hit a one-out single in the eighth inning to bring home Bobby Bradley, who tripled to start the frame, leading to a 2-1 Clippers win over the Indians on Wednesday night. The loss dropped Indy into second place in the IL West.
Bradley's second triple with the Clippers (69-59) came off Nick Burdi in the decisive inning. He rocketed a liner over first baseman Wyatt Mathisen and past second baseman Kevin Kramer, who was shifted heavy to the pull side in shallow right field, all the way into the right-field corner. Burdi (L, 0-2) then struck out Eric Haase but couldn't put away Chang, as the Clippers' shortstop scorched a 3-2 pitch into center to score the winning run.
Indianapolis (68-60) led 1-0 after one inning thanks to a Kevin Kramer two-out knock. Max Moroff doubled to left with one away before hustling home on Kramer's liner to right.
Former Indian Adam Wilk stymied the Tribe after the opening frame. He surrendered doubles to Pablo Reyes and Jacob Stallings in the second and third but stranded both. The Indians put two more runners on in the fifth, only to see Wilk escape by inducing a lineout and groundout.
Columbus stayed within one run until Brandon Waddell was removed from the game at 102 pitches thru 6.0 sparkling innings. The Tribe lefty allowed seven hits, walked one and fanned eight but ultimately settled for a no-decision.
The visitors pulled even in the seventh against A.J. Schugel (BS, 2). Mike Papi walked, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and sprinted home on a two-out single by Adam Rosales.
Henry Martinez (W, 1-0) struck out four over 1.2 scoreless innings. Evan Marshall (S, 3) worked a perfect ninth for his second save of the series.
Reyes' double extended his hitting streak to a season-high tying nine games.
The Indians and Clippers conclude their three-game series on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. EDT. Right-hander J.T. Brubaker (7-3, 3.09) will face Columbus righty Stephen Fife (5-6, 6.20).
