Charlotte Knights News Release
(NORFOLK, VA) - LHP Jordan Guerrero tossed five solid innings to lead the Charlotte Knights to a 3-2 win over the Norfolk Tides on Wednesday morning from Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA. The win followed the resumption and completion of a suspended game from August 1st. In that game, which began at BB&T Ballpark, the Knights fell to the Tides by a score of 15-3 at Harbor Park on Tuesday night.
Guerrero (5-2, 3.00) allowed just one run on four hits over his five innings to earn the win. Guerrero walked three and struck-out two on the night to win for the fifth time this season with the Knights. RHP Caleb Frare allowed one run over one inning of work, while RHP Ian Hamilton earned the save after he tossed a scoreless seventh inning.
Charlotte right fielder Ryan Cordell and second baseman Eddy Alvarez each launched solo home runs in the top of the second inning to help lead the team to the victory. Left fielder Eloy Jiménez and catcher Seby Zavala also chipped in with two hits apiece. Cordell had two RBIs in the game to pace the offense.
The two teams also completed a suspended game from August 1st, which was originally started at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte. That game was suspended on August 1st with the Tides ahead by a score of 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning. After a combined four-hour and 48-minute rain delay, the game was officially resumed at 8:46 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21st -- 20 days later.
The Tides scored 10 runs in the sixth inning, which propelled them to the 15-3 victory. Norfolk used 17 hits, including three home runs to seal the win. RHP Jordan Stephens (3-5, 4.64), who started the game for the Knights back on August 1st at BB&T Ballpark, was saddled with the loss. RHP Carson Fulmer took the mound when the game resumed on Tuesday and did not allow a run in one inning of work. RHP Rob Scahill came on in relief and allowed nine runs on eight hits in one inning of work in the game. The game was supposed to be resumed at 5:05 p.m. on Tuesday, but rain delayed the game until 8:46 p.m.
The Knights and Tides will now continue their series on Wednesday night from Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA. The two teams will play a doubleheader (two seven-inning games) starting at 5:05 p.m. Pre-game radio coverage will begin at 5:00 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action.
