Toledo Mud Hens News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY - The Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Louisville Bats 5-3 in come from behind fashion on Wednesday evening at Louisville Slugger Field.
The Mud Hens (65-62) have won three games in a row as they came back from down 3-0 to defeat the Bats (54-71).
Dawel Lugo recorded three hits and two RBI to lead Toledo offensively.
Louisville jumped on the score board first on a two-out two-run home run by Josh VanMeter in the bottom of the second inning. Tim Federowicz led off the inning by earning a walk and was brought in on VanMeter's ninth home run of the season giving the Bats a 2-0 lead. Louisville then hit three consecutive singles increasing its lead to 3-0.
Toledo went on a two-out rally of its own in the top of the third inning. Daz Cameron reached second on an error followed by a walk from Christin Stewart. Lugo then rocketed a double to the left field corner brining in Cameron and Stewart, cutting the Mud Hens deficit to one.
Tyler Alexander took to the hill to start the game for Toledo. After allowing three runs in the second inning, Alexander retired ten batters in a row before allowing a lead off double in the sixth inning. He then struck out the next batter before handing the ball to Paul Voelker. Alexander delivered five and one third innings of work allowing three earned runs on seven hits while walking one and fanning six.
The Mud Hens offense came to life in the top of the seventh inning. Dixon Machado led off with a single to center. He was brought in on a one-out double by Kade Scivicque. Pete Kozma then tripled down the right field line to score Scivicque and give Toledo its first lead of the game. Jacob Robson then reached on a fielder's choice as Kozma beat the tag at home extending the Mud Hens lead to 5-3. With two-outs Stewart earned his second walk of the game which prompted Louisville to make a pitching change. With two-outs and runners on first and second, Lugo could not come up with his fourth hit of the night and the Hens left two runners stranded.
Voelker did his job out of the Hen Pen, delivering two and two thirds scoreless innings allowing two hits while punching out three, earning his fourth win of the season. Zac Houston came on in the ninth inning and earned his seventh save of the campaign.
