ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS - Clifton Thomas drove in two runs and threw out the potential tying run at the plate in the 8th, as London (4-10) shut down Rockford 5-3.

Matt Schimpf (1-0) got the win in his first professional start for London, pitching 6 strong innings, giving up 8 hits and one walk.

Andrew Chilcoat followed with three scoreless innings for his 1st save of the year.

The Rippers put two on the board in the top of the 4th, when Justino Cuevas smashed a double up the left field gap, scoring Clifton Thomas and Aaron Glaum, making it 2-1.

London got some help scoring two more runs in the 5th . David Christensen scored on a wild pitch, the 18th errant throw by Rockford pitchers this year. Thomas followed with a single to right, scoring J.C. Paquin and extending the lead to 4-1.

Rockford tightened the game to 4-3 on Jet Butler's 2-RBI double. However, Butler was thrown out trying to stretch the play to a triple.

The RiverHawks nearly scored the tying run on the 8th on a single by Evan Button but leftfielder, Clifton Thomas threw Javier Herrera out at the plate to end the inning.

Thomas followed that play up with an RBI single in the top of the 9th, scoring Stephen Cardullo and adding an insurance run.

Every hitter for the Rippers had a base hit in the game. Thomas had two.

London looks for the series win tomorrow at RiverHawks Stadium, wrapping up this 3-game set. First pitch is 3:05pm Central. Yohan Gonzalez will start for London against Rockford's Kevin Patterson.
