Game #15 - Home Game #8 (8-6), (4-3)

Last time out.
The Slammers opened the three game series against Washington in style as they scored 15 runs on 16 hits in a 15-2 victory over the Washington Wild Things Friday night. Abel Nieves and David Fox paced the Slammers attack as Nieves hit a two-run home run into the Bud Beach and Fox hit a towering three-run home run to left field. Every Slammers player either reached base or drove in a run in the game. Eric Binder went five innings, giving up two runs on four hits to get the victory. He walked two and struck out six. Chase Doremus, Geoff Brown and Jim Schult combined for four shutout innings out of the bullpen. Nieves scored three runs and walked four times while Fox scored twice and drove in four runs. Erik Lis tallied four hits in six at bats, scoring twice and driving in two. Kyle Maunus, Hector Pellot and Zach Mandelblatt all had multi-hit games for the Slammers as they won their 4th in a row.
For Starters.
Naperville native Michael Perconte gets the start tonight for the Slammers. He is coming off a quality start against the Evansville Otters where he went six innings scattering six hits, giving up two runs, walking one and striking out four. Perconte was acquired by the Slammers from the American Association's Gary South Shore RailCats on May 26 for LHP Chuck Lukanen and future considerations. Perconte is the son of Joliet native and former MLB player Jack Perconte.
An offensive barrage.
Last night the Slammers recorded their largest home margin of victory (13) in franchise history, besting their previous mark of 10 set last year on June 23 against the Windy City ThunderBolts. It was also the second most runs the Slammers have ever scored and the most they've ever scored at home. They fell short of tying the franchise record for runs by only one. Erik Lis' four hits tied a franchise mark for hits in a game by an individual player.
Walk this way.
Abel Nieves drew four walks last night, setting a new franchise record for walks drawn in a game by an individual player. Hector Pellot leads the team in walks with 12 (second in the league) while Nieves is not far behind now with 10 (tied for third in the league).
Outscoring the opposition.
For the first time all season, the Slammers have recorded more runs than their opponents. They've scored 62 runs while other teams have recorded 51 against Joliet. Their team batting average of .266 is the second highest in the league.
Shutting down the opposition.
The Slammers' bullpen has an ERA of 1.70 on the season in 47.2 innings. The pitching staff as a whole currently sports an ERA of 2.47, the lowest in the league. Meanwhile, opposing batters are only hitting .215 against the Slammers, second lowest in the league behind Evansville (.196). Only one pitcher on the entire Slammers staff has an ERA over 3.00.
Erroneous!
The Slammers have surrendered the most unearned runs in the league (17) while committing 13 errors on the season.
Movin' on up!
RHP Gaby Hernandez became the fourth Slammers player to move on to affiliated baseball when his contract was purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday, May 21. He joins LHP Aaron Dott, Joliet native RHP Ryan Quigley and Darien native RHP Chris Pack as former Slammers in MLB organizations.
Transaction Wire.
The Slammers placed Catcher Trey Manz on the 7-Day DL yesterday retroactive to May 29. They signed Catcher Tony Sanchez. Sanchez is a Plainfield native and a North Park University alum.
