Clark's Dominance Leads Freedom to 1-0 Shutout

Freedom starter Andy Clark continued his recent six-game stretch of dominance, as he threw seven shutout innings, and Chris Curley blasted the game-winning homer in the sixth to lead the Freedom to their first shutout win of the season.
Clark and CornBelters starter Ryan Sheldon were locked in a pitcher's duel that kept the game scoreless through five innings. Each team had their opportunities, but Normal left the bases loaded in the third and the Freedom did the same in the fourth after they had the bases loaded and no outs.
Chris Curley ended the stalemate with a two-out solo homer to left in the bottom of the sixth. It was his 12th homer and 51st RBI of the season and he now ranks in the top five in the Frontier League in both categories.
Brandon Mathes came in to relieve Clark in the eighth and got out of a first and second, two-out jam with help from Curley at third. A slow roller was hit to the left, Curley barehanded it, and fired to first to get Mike Mobbs.
Corey Martin worked a clean ninth inning with a strikeout to earn his 10th save of the season.
Clark improves to 7-2 this season and is 4-1 with a 1.50 ERA in his last six starts. His eight wins are top 5 in the Frontier League. It was the first series win since July 3 for the Freedom, breaking a five-consecutive series losing streak.
The Freedom hit the road for six games starting Wednesday at River City. Alec Lewis (1-3, 3.86) takes the mound for the Freedom for the 8:05 ET start.
