River City Rascals News Release

Sauget, IL- The 4,125 fans at GCS Ballpark saw plenty of home runs as the first 5 runs and the eventual game winner were all scored by way of the big fly. River City was able to escape the extra inning contest to pick up the win and extend their current win streak to 8 games with the 6-5 win against cross metro rival Gateway.

Gateway got on the board first with a solo shot against Rascals starter Josh Lowey (6-2, 2.57 ERA) in the bottom of the first inning. River City didn't wait long to answer back. In the second inning after Joash Brodin was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning Chad Maddox took Gateway starter and St. Louis native Brad Stone deep for his eighth home run of the season. Jarek West followed Maddox with a solo home run for his 7th of the season and put the Rascals up 3 to 1.

The pitching and defense took over from there as both starter didn't allow any more runs until Bobby Burk tacked on another run hitting a solo shot in the top of the 7th inning for his 11th home run of the year. Kolby Moore came in to pitch in the eight inning in relief of Lowey, but was only able to record one out. Derick Miramontes relieved Moore and pitched an inning and two thirds as Gateway scored 2 runs to tie the game.

In the extra frame Eric Williams worked his way on base with a lead off walk and was moved over to second by Doug Sanders. That brought up Jason Patton who was able to work the count to get a 2-1 pitch that he was able to get out of the park, for his sixth home run of the sesaon, to put the Rascals up 6-4. Gateway tried to mount another come back scoring one run and putting runners on against River City's Brandon Cuniff who came in to relieve Miramontes. Cuniff was able to strike out the final batter to earn his fifth save of the season and preserve the win for Miramontes (6-0, 10 saves).

Gateway and River City meet for the series finale tomorrow at 7:05 pm with Zach Robertson (6-0, 3.09) scheduled to start for the Rascals against Grizzlie starter Andre Carceres Jr. All the game action can be heard with Jason Troop and special guest Rascals Public Address Anouncer Randy Moehleman on 94.1 Westplex Newstalk or online at www.westplexnewstalk.com.
