Tim Battle's Walk Off Homer Scores Victory for Wild Things

Washington, PA-After staging a late-game comeback to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings, the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, won the final game of their series against the Lake Erie Crushers, 5-4, in eleven innings.

After the Crushers took a 3-0 lead, a home run by Wild Things left fielder Estee Harris in the bottom of the second inning cut the Crushers' lead to 3-1.

Washington scored again in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut Lake Erie's lead to 4-2. After loading the bases, first baseman Eric Stephens hit a sacrifice RBI to drive in second baseman Scott Lawson.

A home run to lead off the bottom of the eighth by shortstop Kevyn Feiner cut the lead down to one run, and another sacrifice RBI by Stephens drove in Lawson to tie the game.

In the bottom of the eleventh inning, left fielder Tim Battle hit a walk-off home run over the left field wall (his first home run of the season) to win the game for the Wild Things.

Wild Things starting pitcher Casey Barnes (5-3) lasted seven innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on ten hits. Barnes also had five strikeouts. Reliever Mark Williams (1-1) earned the win for the Wild Things, pitching the final inning and allowing no runs and one hit. Williams struck out three batters.

Lake Erie starter Thomas Campbell (1-2) pitched five innings for the Crushers, allowing one run (earned) on four hits, while striking out four. Robert Wendziki (0-1) took the loss for the Crushers, pitching the final 1 1/3 innings and allowing one run (earned) on three hits, while striking out one.

The Wild Things continue their homestand tomorrow with a three-game series against the Rockford RiverHawks. It's a Kids Eat Free night presented by Shearer's Snack Foods, and the first 1,000 people to enter the ballpark will receive a drawstring bag, presented by CoGo's. The game starts at 6:35 p.m., with pre-game coverage beginning at 6:25 p.m. on WJPA 95.3 FM.
