Brampton Steelheads News Release

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads hosted the Kitchener Rangers for a Thanksgiving showdown Sunday afternoon, looking to crack a three-game losing streak. Jack Flinn has become the Steelheads go-to, making his seventh start in goal for the Trout, while former Steelhead, Dawson Carty started between the pipes for Kitchener.

The Rangers jumped out to an early lead with a goal from Darby Llewellyn at 1:43. Adam Mascherin drew the assist on Llewellyn's second of the season. Nearing the half way mark of the first, the Steelheads would have a chance to even the score as Frank Hora took a hooking penalty that would send Mississauga to the power play. Unfortunately the Trout were unable to capitalize on the man-advantage as the Rangers held a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Shots on goal after the first period were 13-9 in favour of Kitchener.

The Steelheads had a number of good chances in the second, but were unable to find the back of the net. Llewellyn netted his second of the game at 9:45 of the middle frame, giving the Rangers a 2-0 lead after two periods of play. Shots on goal were 10-7 in favour of the Rangers in the second.

Things started to come together for Mississauga in the third as Everett Clark brought the team to life with a short-handed marker to get his team on the board. Nathan Bastian drew the assist on Clark's second of the season. With Llewellyn in the box serving two for interference, the Steelheads would capitalize on the power play as Clark netted his second of the game to even the score at 2-2. Alex Nylander and Jared Walsh picked up the assists on Clark's power play goal. The Steelheads continued to dominate for the remainder of the period, forcing the game into overtime. With Mason Kohn still in the box at the end of the third, Mississauga would have a man-advantage to start the overtime period.

The Rangers held on as Kohn's penalty expired, resulting in 4-on-4 action until Carty held the puck to start the 3-on-3. Nylander was the overtime hero, netting his fourth of the season, as the Steelheads completed the comeback for a 3-2 win. Clark and Day picked up the assists on Nylander's game-winning goal.

The Steelheads will visit the North Bay Battalion tomorrow for a 2:00 pm start.
