Clark and Kelly Stay Hot, But Brahmas Top Thunder

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX- The Wichita Thunder lost 4-1 at the NYTEX Sports Centre on Friday night. Each team created offensive chances early in the game, but it was Texas who opened a 1-0 lead at the 11:48 mark in the first period. Tyrell Mason made a lateral pass the length of the Thunder zone to Scott Thauwald who ripped a shot from the right boards that made it past Scott Campbell. Campbell faced 22 shots in the first period.

Wichita outshot Texas 11 to 8 in the second, but Texas extended its lead at 5:29 on a goal from Kevin McLeod. McLeod broke up a Thunder odd-man Rush with a poke check and then raced up the ice to lead a Texas two-on-one. McLeoed then fired a shot that hopped into the net.

Texas utilized a shorthanded goal early in the third to take a 3-0 advantage. Thauwald led a two-on-one and made a cross-slot pass to Ross Rouleau who punched in the goal at 4:48. Wichita scored its lone goal at 10:51 in the third on the power play. Joel Hanson setup Neil Clark outside of the crease who tipped the puck beyond Brett Jaeger to break up the shutout. Clark now has seven points in six games with the Thunder. Paul Kelly also assisted on the goal, and has 16 points in his last 14 games. Texas put the game away at 18:17 in the third. Jason Deitsch walked into a loose puck in the slot and shot it past the left of a defenseless Campbell for a 4-1 Brahmas lead.

Campbell saved 41 of 45 in the loss, while Jaeger was 26 of 27 in the win. Wichita went 1 for 7 on the power play and was a perfect 6 for 6 on the penalty kill. The 45 shots allowed by the Thunder tie a season-high.
