Allen Americans News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Arizona - The Allen Americans fell to the Arizona Sundogs 3-2 tonight for the first time this season. Allen sits in second place in the Southern Conference with a 34-12-4 record (72 points). The club ended a tough stretch of six games in eight days earning seven points out of a possible 12.
Arizona jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first period with tallies from Linus Fagemo and Kevin Jarman. Fagemo's goal occurred at 1:28, while Jarman grabbed his with 1:12 left in the period.
The Americans closed the gap to one after forward Nathan O'Nabigon scored a goal 1:34 into the second frame to make the score 2-1. Five minutes later, Jarman scored his second goal of the night, which would eventually be the game winner.
Allen headed into the third period down 3-1. Colton Yellow Horn picked up his sixth goal of the season to bring Allen within one at 6:37, but the club could not light the lamp again to even the score.
The Americans held the Sundogs to two shots on goal in the third period. That is the second time this season Allen has only allowed an opponent two shots. Rio Grande Valley was able to get the puck on net only twice in the Dec. 4 contest.
Allen killed off all five penalties and netted one power play goal this evening.
Americans netminder Chris Whitley made 13 saves, while Arizona's Doug Groenestege stopped 33 shots.
Allen travels to Rio Grande Valley next Tuesday for a 7:35 p.m. puck drop against the Killer Bees. Then, the club hosts Laredo and Bossier-Shreveport on consecutive nights Feb. 25 and Feb. 26, respectively.
