Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

COMING UP: The Cincinnati Cyclones play three divisional games this week, looking to move back into first place. The current leaders of the North Division, the Elmira Jackals, visit U.S. Bank Arena for the first time ever on Wednesday night (Nov. 28). It is another 'Wet Wednesday', with specials on a selected brand of beer for one dollar (twelve ounce servings) all night. This weekend (Friday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1), the club is at Johnstown and Trenton for 7pm games each night.

TESTING ONE, TWO, TESTING...: The games at Johnstown and Trenton will both be carried on SuperTalk FM 96.5. The game Friday night will immediately follow Andy Furman's 'SuperSports' show and the contest Saturday night will have a pregame show prior to it. Both games begin at 7:05pm.

LAST WEEK IN REWIND: The Cyclones turned in a 1-2 record last week. Tuesday night (Nov. 20), Wheeling rolled into U.S. Bank Arena for a makeup game from the previous week. Cincinnati claimed a 3-1 win and a secure hold on first place in the division. Losses to Dayton on Friday (7-5) and Saturday (4-2), rearranged the North Division standings. Right wing Jean-Michel Daoust netted three goals and four assists for the week, while center David Desharnais picked up a goal and five assists.

DAOUST SETS SCORING RECORD: Cyclones right wing Jean-Michel Daoust established a club record last week after picking up a goal in his eighth consecutive game. While the string was snapped on Saturday night, Daoust picked up ten goals and seven assists for 17 points from Nov. 7-23. While the goal scoring streak ended for Jean-Michel, his games with an assist streak is at six currently and he has had a point in each of the last nine games--his longest stretch as a professional. Sheldon Gorski (1997-98) and Mike Flynn (1998-99) hold the team record for consecutive games with an assist at seven.

MORE ON DAOUST: Forward Jean-Michel Daoust has moved into seventh place on the club's all-time scoring list with 86 points, eight behind Nick Bootland for sixth place. Daoust is currently fourth on the career game winning goals list (seven) and career power play goals (15) chart. Jean-Michel celebrated his 24th birthday on Saturday night.

DESHARNAIS HAS NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER: Cyclones rookie center David Desharnais has enjoyed the second month of the season, registering an ECHL-best +14 plus/minus rating. That is +3 better than teammate Conrad Martin, who is tied with Ernie Hartlieb (Florida) for second place. Desharnais has also netted 19 points (4-15-19) in November, the second-highest rookie total in the month (Matt Beaudoin of Dayton has 20). David's 15 assists are the most by a rookie in the month and second-most in the ECHL (Yannick Tifu of Dayton has 21). Desharnais has been even or better in all twelve Cyclones games in November and has not been on the minus side of the ledger since posting a minus-two at Elmira on Oct. 31.

UNBEATEN STRING ENDS: Following Tuesday's win against Wheeling, the Cyclones held a 6-0-1 stretch over the previous seven games--tying the club record. Cincinnati went 5-0-2 from Feb. 22 through March 15, 2002.

NINE WOULD BE FINE: The Cyclones have tied the team record for wins in the month of November with eight. The club has only won nine or more games in a month on two other occasions. The squad turned in a 9-2-2 slate in January 1997 while the club was known as the Louisville Riverfrogs and the Cyclones were 10-2-2 in March 2002. Cincinnati hosts Elmira on Wednesday and is at Johnstown on Friday to close out the eleventh month of the year.

150, 150, 150...: The number 150 appeared several times in recent days for the Cincinnati Cyclones. Right wing Jean-Michel Daoust reached 150 professional games a week ago. Matt Macdonald and Barret Ehgoetz both hit the 150 career games played last week. Daoust also hit 150 points as a pro last week and also registered 150 penalty minutes as well. Dov Grumet-Morris surpassed 150 saves on the season last week as well.

BACK WHERE WE STARTED: The Cyclones begin the week four points behind Elmira for first place in the North Division, a position they held for 90 days a year ago. Cincinnati has been in the top spot for twelve days already and could take over the lead position as early as Friday of the this week. Last season, the club did not move into the top spot until Dec. 30.

ALL CHUCK DOES IS WIN...: Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber has a 47-34-7 record (.574 winning percentage), the best in team history. Only Warren Young (100 wins) has claimed more victories than Weber and it took him three complete seasons to accomplish the feat. That winning percentage is the best of any coach in the North Division since the start of last season.

GOALIES ARE GOOD: The Cyclones goaltending tandem of Cedrick Desjardins and Dov Grumet-Morris rank fourth in the ECHL in goals against average at 2.56. Desjardins ranks seventh individually at 2.25, while Grumet-Morris is at 2.78. Cedrick is also tied for the league lead in shutouts with two (Glenn Fisher of Stockton and Joel Martin of Elmira each have two).

DEFENSE RISES: In addition to ranking second in the ECHL in goals against average, the Cyclones also lead the league in fewest shots allowed. Cincinnati is surrendering 25.46 shots per game. The club has permitted just 108 shots in the third period of games this season, an average of 7.92 per games--third-fewest in the league. The Cyclones have allowed 107 first period shots, third-fewest in the league as well.
