The week that was:
Tuesday, November 20, Texas Wildcatters 3 @ Augusta Lynx 4 (Shootout)
It was a night to remember for #19 Aaron Slattengren, as the forward from Duluth, Minnesota scored three goals and a goal in the shootout to help the Lynx stay perfect at home this season with a thrilling 4-3 win over the first-place Texas Wildcatters. The Lynx got on the board first thanks to Slattengren's first goal, a rocket over the glove of Peter Aubry for a 1-0 lead. Texas would strike back only :38 seconds later thanks to a snap shot goal from the slot from Danick Bouchard which beat Lynx goaltender #35 JP Levasseur to the glove side. The Lynx regained the lead thanks to a 5 on 3 power play goal as Slattengren tipped home a drive from the point off the stick of #15 Eric Lundberg with help from #25 Adrian Veideman. The Lynx scored the only goal in the second period, as Slattengren netted the hat-trick picking up a drive off the end board from #9 Louis Goulet and tipping in on the right hand side for a 3-1 lead. Veideman would again pick up another assist. However, Texas wouldn't die in the 3rd period and thanks to goals from AJ Thelen and Max Taylor, the Wildcatters were able to tie the game. #1 Nathan Marsters would take over in goal to start the overtime and made several big saves to keep the Lynx in the game. In the shootout, Slattengren and #12 Ryan Dingle would score for the Lynx to prevail at home and remain undefeated at the James Brown Arena with a perfect 5-0-0 record.
Thursday, November 22, Augusta Lynx 4 @ Mississippi SeaWolves 0
This year on Thanksgiving, JP stood for 'Just Perfect' as the goaltender from Victoriaville, Quebec and the rest of the Lynx posted their first shutout of the season for Augusta in a 4-0 win over Mississippi. The Lynx were very defensively disciplined on Thursday to begin the game, absorbing the SeaWolves best chances which came in the opening frame. After a scoreless first period, the Lynx got on the board in the 2nd period with a goal from #19 Aaron Slattengren from a great pass from #9 Louie Goulet and #23 John Laliberte. For Slattengren it was his 4th straight goal for Augusta. The momentum may have shifted for good early in the 3rd period as #10 Jason Kostadine won a decisive fight that may have pumped up his teammates as the Lynx scored three goals in the final 10:01. The Lynx second goal was a rocket from the point from #25 Adrian Veideman, who received a great pass from #18 Igor Pohanka and #16 Chase Watson to make it 2-0 Lynx. The Lynx made it 3-0 as Goulet scored his 3rd goal of the year, taking a rebound off the end boards and smashing it home with help from Veideman and Laliberte. The game was put out of reach with a great individual effort from #11 Matt Christie who beat his man for a breakaway goal from the left side with help from #12 Ryan Dingle and #20 Matt Auffrey. The rest was the JP Levasseur show as the goaltender turned aside all 27 SeaWolves shots for his 4th win of the year.
Friday, November 23, Augusta Lynx 5 @ Mississippi SeaWolves 6 (Shootout)
Deja Vu all over again for the Augusta Lynx. The Lynx appeared to be headed for a win on Friday only to give up the game-tying goal with :04 seconds remaining in the 3rd period and ultimately lost in a shootout, 6-5. Scoring for the Lynx tonight were #9 Louis Goulet, #20 Matt Auffrey, #23 John Laliberte and #21 Bobby Bolt (2). Tonight marks the second time this season the Lynx have lost a lead with under :08 seconds remaining in the game. The Lynx do gain a point in the standings and remain in 4th place. The game began with Mississippi on the offensive. Two almost identical goals from the point gave the SeaWolves a 2-1 lead after the 1st period. Both shots came after face-off wins in the Lynx defensive zone and SeaWolves defensemen getting shots past a screened #1 Nathan Marsters both times. #9 Louis Goulet had the lone Lynx goal in the 1st period with assists to #15 Eric Lundberg and #25 Adrian Veideman. The second period was the #21 Bobby Bolt show, as the forward scored two straight goals, the first on a 5 on 3 power play with assists from #27 Nick Toneys and #2 Jason Platt and the second on a turnover with help from #18 Igor Pohanka and #16 Chase Watson. After two periods, the score was tied at 3-3 with the Lynx outshooting the SeaWolves 27-18. The 3rd period was a back and forth affair with the Lynx going up 4-3 with a rebound goal from #20 Matt Auffrey with help from #11 Matt Christie and Lundberg's second assist of the night. The SeaWolves would even the game at 4-4 thanks to a coast to coast goal from Lance Monynch who split three Lynx players and scored on a breakaway. However, the Lynx appeared to take the lead for good with a goal with less than three minutes remaining from #23 John Laliberte scored on a nice pass from #19 Aaron Slattengren and Goulet. However, the lead would not hold. With Auffrey in the box the SeaWolves pulled the goalie and got the equalizer from Mark Hurtubise, who found himself alone in front one on one with Marsters, who couldn't stop the last second shot that went over his glove. In overtime, the Lynx had two 4 on 3 power play chances, but couldn't convert. In the shootout, the SeaWolves scored twice while all four Lynx shooters were shut down.
Saturday, November 24, Augusta Lynx 1 @ Mississippi SeaWolves 3
It was just one of those games for the Augusta Lynx on Saturday. A lot of scoring chances, but nothing seemed to find the back of the net. Despite outshooting the SeaWolves 42-19 on Saturday, the fell to Mississippi 3-1 in the rubber match of the three-game weekend series. Mississippi wasted no time getting on the board thanks to a goal just two minutes into the game. Just :15 seconds later the SeaWolves made it 2-0 on a rebound goal and on their first three shots of the game, Mississippi had scored two goals. The Lynx went down 3-0, just a minute into the 2nd period with a point-blank goal from the slot that eluded goaltender #35 JP Levasseur. That would all Mississippi would get, but it was enough. #16 Chase Watson scored the lone Lynx goal late in the 2nd period on a rebound with help from #20 Matt Auffrey and #18 Igor Pohanka. The Lynx went 0 for 5 on the power play and posted their first regulation loss of the road trip.
