The Cincinnati Cyclones play host to the Johnstown Chiefs three times over the next four days. This is a rematch of the opening round of the Kelly Cup playoffs a year ago. Cincinnati swept that series in four games and this is the Chiefs first visit to U.S. Bank Arena since dropping the opening two games of that postseason battle.
PROMOTIONS:
Friday night is Sing With Santa Night. Fans get into the holiday season with a chance to spread cheer. The Cyclones players get into the act also, with pre-recorded carols, including one done in French by our Canadian contingent. Saturday night is Last Chance Christmas. The Cyclones will have some of the hottest gifts of the holiday season to give away-including a Wii gaming system. It is also Replica Ring Night. Fans entering the arena will be given a large ceramic replica ring-similar to the ones the players received for winning the Kelly Cup championship. Monday (December 8), the teams meet again and Pulled Pork Sandwiches will be priced at just one dollar each.
ABOUT THE TEAMS:
Cincinnati comes into the series with a 10-7-3 record, winners of five straight. The Cyclones are currently in fourth place in the North Division, four points behind Wheeling and Dayton, which are tied for the second spot and three points in front of Elmira.
Johnstown enters with a 15-5-1 record and leads the North Division, four points in front of Wheeling and Dayton.
SERIES:
Season series, tied at one win apiece. November 12, Johnstown picked up a 7-4 win. November 29, the Cyclones took a 6-3 verdict. Cincinnati leads the all-time series between the clubs, 32-13-5 (.690 winning percentage).
SERIES LEADERS:
Cyclones forward Thomas Beauregard has four goals and two assists for six points versus Johnstown.....Andrew Sarauer has two goals and four assists for six points against Cincinnati. Sarauer had two goals and three assists in the 7-4 win over the Cyclones on November 12.
NOTES:
Cyclones forward Olivier Latendresse leads the ECHL with 17 goals.....Latendresse is second in the league with 27 points.....Cyclones forward Thomas Beauregard is second in the ECHL in goals with 14 and is fifth in points with 26.....Johnstown's Petr Pohl ranks eighth in the league in scoring with 22 points.....Chiefs forward Alex Penner is the fifth-most penalized player in the league with 76 minutes.....Penner and Cyclones goaltender Kyle Gajewski were teammates at Sault Ste. Marie (OHL) three years ago.....Cyclones goaltender Martin Houle is 5-1 since being acquired from Las Vegas on November 17.....Johnstown goaltender Kris Mayotte is off to a 10-2-1 mark early on-with one of the losses coming last Saturday to the Cyclones.....Mayotte was in goal for Fresno last season and took the loss when the Cyclones won the last of their ECHL record breaking 17 consecutive wins.
