RoadRunners Acquire Defenseman Schaeffer From Reading

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, announced today the acquisition of the ECHL rights to defenseman Kevin Schaeffer and future considerations from the Reading Royals in exchange for center Peder Skinner, forward Chris Stevens, and defenseman Brett Thurston.

Schaeffer, 24, is currently on loan to the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League after signing a professional try-out offer on Nov. 21. The South Huntington, N.Y. native and second-year professional has one assist and four penalty minutes with the Bruins, and recorded six penalty minutes in six games with the Royals.

Schaeffer split the 2007-08 season between Providence and Reading appearing in 31 games with the Bruins while recording one goal and one assist and also collected two goals and seven points in 19 games with the Royals. A four-year product of Boston University, Schaeffer totaled 17 goals and 54 points in 152 career collegiate games.

Skinner tallied one goal and six points in 16 games with the RoadRunners and one goal in three games with the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League. Stevens had one assist and 12 penalty minutes in seven games, while Thurston recorded one assist and 42 penalty minutes in 20 contests with Phoenix.

Phoenix returns to US Airways Center at 7:05 p.m. Friday when they conclude their three-game home-stand and three-game series with the Las Vegas Wranglers.
