Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Erik Felde scored twice for Alaska but Andrew Ianiero broke a 2-2 tie midway through the third period to give Bakersfield its first regulation win over the Aces in more than two years, 3-2, in front of 3,347 Wednesday at Sullivan Arena.
Alaska (13-6-1) has dropped three of its last four games, all by a single goal, and saw its five-game home winning streak come to an end as well as a 13-game unbeaten run against the Condors dating to November 25, 2006. Bakersfield, meanwhile, ended a four-game winless skid and snapped a 10-game losing streak to Alaska, including a four-game sweep in the 2007 National Conference semi-finals.
After a scoreless first period in which the Aces out-shot the Condors 9-6, Felde scored on a breakaway set up by an outlet pass from Luke Erickson to put Alaska out in front, 1-0, at 4:01 of the second period. Dale Reinhardt tied the contest just 26 seconds later, and Kevin Truelson banged home a power play goal between the circles at 12:56 of the middle frame to give Bakersfield its first lead. That edge lasted less than two minutes, however, as Felde, who also enjoyed a two-goal game November 16 in a win over Utah, scored on an Aces power play at 14:42 to create a 2-2 deadlock.
Ianiero's game-winner came off the rush at 6:51 of the final period and was set up by former UAA stand-out Charlie Kronschnabel. Alaska had two power plays in the final nine minutes and out-shot Bakersfield 28-26, but failed to beat Condors goalie Ryan Nie for the equalizer. Chris Holt took the loss in net, finishing with 23 saves.
The Aces played with just 14 skaters, including only four defensemen, and will take a much-needed day off before returning to action against Bakersfield (7-9-3) on Military Appreciation Weekend this Friday and Saturday at Sullivan Arena. Both games will start at 7:15 p.m., with Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show coverage on KFQD AM 750 getting underway at 7:00.
