Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Cincinnati, OH â The storybook season for the Cincinnati Cyclones has another chapter to be written.
In near miraculous fashion on East Sunday, the Cyclones rallied for a 4-3 shootout win over the Wheeling Nailers to clinch the fourth and final playoff spot in the ECHL's Northwest Division standings. The Cyclones first round opponent will either be the Dayton Bombers or the Peoria Rivermen, pending the outcomes of their respective games late Sunday evening.
The Cyclones finished the night with a 55-36 shots on goal advantage, but need to rally late. Wheeling had taken a 3-2 lead with 6:50 left in regulation when JP Soucy scored for the visitors. Cincinnati used a power play goal from Sean Molina with just 1:09 left in the game to tie the score 3-3.
Following a scoreless overtime period, the Cyclones had four successive saves from goaltender Alex Westlund and got goals from Curtis Huppe and Don Biggs to win the extra-session.
Cincinnati qualified for the post-season for the 10th consecutive season.
