Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

HELENA, MT --- In the finale of a weekend series at Kindrick Field, the Idaho Falls Chukars had their eight-game win streak snapped with a 10-8 defeat at the hands of the Helena Brewers on Sunday.

During a stretch where they took the initial lead in eight of the last ten games, the Chukars trailed early on Sunday when the Brewers scored a run in each of the first three innings to take an early lead.

Down 3-0 in the fourth, Idaho Falls began to chip away at their deficit against lefty Jake Drossner. After second basemen DJ Burt came through with a one-out single and then stole second, outfielderRoman Collins reached on an error to put runners at first and second. During the next at bat, an attempted a double steal caused an errant throw and allowed Burt to score to put the Chukars on the board. Two pitches later, a RBI double from first basemen Josh Banuelos scored Collins to make the score 3-2.

After Helena tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the inning on the second of two homers on the day for Brewers infielder Jose Cuas, Idaho Falls capped off their initial comeback in the fifth inning.

With a walk drawn by third basemen Logan Nottebrook to begin the inning, back-to-back singles from second basemen Jeckson Flores and Cody Jones allowed a run to score to cut the Chukars deficit to two. Following a RBI safety squeeze from Burt that scored Flores and made the score 5-4, Collins deposited a fastball by Brewers righty Bubba Blau over the right field fall for a two-run homer that gave Idaho Falls their only lead of the game.

Unfortunately, it was a lead that the Chukars would be unable to hold.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Helena came back to score five runs of their own against righty Derek Gordon (L, 1-3) and lefty Ian Tompkins to take the lead for good.

Offensively for the Chukars, they made one last surge to keep their win streak intact during the ninth inning. Against Brewers righty Marcos Diplan, singles by Burt and Banuelos got the rally started with one out. After a wild pitch allowed Burt to score, outfielder Brawlun Gomez drove Banuelos to make the score 10-8. The game ended with that score as third basemen Ryan Dale struck out to end the game with the potential game-tying run on second base.

The loss for the Chukars snapped their season-high eight game win streak. It was their first loss since July 29 against Orem.

To start off the second leg of their week-long road trip in Montana and three-game series against the Billings Mustangs, the Chukars will send LHP Hunter Haynes on Monday night. Billings will counter with a pitcher that is to be determined. First pitch is at 1:05 PM.
