D-Backs Assign Garcia to Missoula

MISSOULA, MONT. - The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired left-handed pitcher Junior Garcia from the Houston Astros for left-handed pitcher Oliver Pérez on Friday, and the D-backs have assigned Perez to Missoula.

Garcia, 19, is 3-1 with a 0.96 ERA (4 ER in 37.1 IP), .201 opponents average and 26 strikeouts in a combined nine games (six starts) between Short-Season A Tri-City and Rookie-Advanced Greeneville. He opened the season at Greeneville, and in his first three games, allowed one unearned run in 11.1 innings. Over his first six games (four starts), he allowed three runs (one earned) in 24.1 innings. In his two most recent outings (one start), with Tri-City, he has 8.0 scoreless innings.

The 6-foot-1 hurler has played three Minor Leagues seasons in the Astros system since signing as a non-drafted free agent on Oct. 17, 2012. In 36 career games (15 starts), he is 5-4 with a 2.20 ERA (38 ER in 114.2 IP), .233 opponents average and 84 strikeouts. Garcia is a native of Jima Abajo, Dominican Republic.

The Osprey continue the 2015 season tonight at 4:05 pm MT with game four of a four-game series at Grand Junction. Following today's finale, the O's will travel to Orem for a three-game series before returning home to host the Rockies on August 14 at 6:35 pm MT. That game against Grand Junction will open a seven-game home stand for Missoula.
