BALANCED ATTACK LIFTS GF
The Voyagers tied their season-high with 17 hits as they beat Orem for the second straight night, 9-3 on Saturday. Great Falls jumped out to an early lead, plating five in the second. The Voyagers then added one each in the middle three innings, including a solo homer from Dante Flores and an RBI single from Zach Fish to give the backstop his team-leading 31st RBI of the year. The 8-0 lead was plenty for Great Falls starter Brandon Magallones, who for the second straight start turned in five scoreless innings. The Owlz got a few runs off of the Voyager bullpen, but never seriously threatened the lead.
MAGNIFICENT MAGS
For the second straight start, right-hander Brandon Magallones went five scoreless innings, claiming his second win as a starter last night against Orem. The righty allowed just three hits and walked one, shutting down an Owlz offense that entered the night as the league's leaders in run scoring and team batting average. Over his last two starts, Magallones has allowed just four hits over 10.0 scoreless frames.
MORE ON THE O'S BIG NIGHT
For the third time this season, the Voyagers racked up 17 hits, which tied their season-high. It was a balanced attack, as nine of the ten Great Falls hitters who had an at-bat recorded at least one hit, while seven posted multi-hit efforts. Zach Fish led the way with three knocks, which tied his career-high. The six that posted two hits in last night's win were Johan Cruz, Dante Flores, Jackson Glines, Ryan Jones, Grant Massey, and Antonio Rodriguez. Seven different players also recorded at least one RBI in the contest, including Frank Califano, Cruz, Fish, Flores, Jones, Massey and Victor Velasquez.
ROSTER MOVE
Left-hander Ryan Riga was promoted from Great Falls to Low-A Kannapolis the White Sox announced Sunday, after making seven appearances in the Pioneer League. The former Ohio State Buckeye posted a 1.50 ERA in 12.0 innings, striking out 15 for a rate of 11.3 K/9. The southpaw joins fellow lefty Zack Erwin as the two members of the White Sox 2015 draft class to reach Kannapolis.
