August 9, 2015 - Pioneer League (PL)
Helena Brewers News Release
The Helena Brewers (3-7) snapped their six-game home losing streak with a 10-8 win on Sunday over the Idaho Falls Chukars (8-2). The win would also end the Chukars' eight-game winning streak, their longest since 2007.
Jake Drossner started off hot for Helena, facing the minimum in his first three innings and striking out three. At that point, he had struck out 12 batters over his last 7 innings. Things turned south however in the fourth and fifth and Drossner would leave with five runs and five hits to his name.
The Brewers took an early 3-0 lead, scoring a run in each of the first three innings.
Malik Collymore doubled to lead off the bottom of the first for Helena, he later scored on the sacrifice fly of Steven Karkenny. Collymore now has 10 hits in 5 games in the Brewers' system, going 2-for-4 on Sunday.
Jose Cuas led the Helena offense, hitting a solo homerun in the second off Derek Gordon (1-3). Cuas posted a huge game, going 3-for-4 with two homers, a triple, four RBI, and three RBI. He is just the second Brewer this year to record a multi-homer game along with Troy Stokes.
Yerison Pena made his U.S. debut, playing third base and going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, an RBI, and two runs.
Bubba Blau (3-4) picked up the win, pitching two innings of relief. He gave up one run on two hits and struck out two.
Marcos Diplan struggled to close the game, but did pick up his second professional save.
The Chukars trailed 10-6 going to the ninth and managed to get the tying run in scoring position. D.J. Burt scored on a wild pitch and Brawlun Gomez smacked an RBI single to score Josh Banuelos. Ryan Dale would strike out swinging to end the game.
The win ends Helena's three-game losing streak, their six-game home losing streak, and puts to an end the eight-game winning streak of the Chukars.
The Brewers now host the Ogden Raptors in a three-game series starting Monday at Kindrick Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
