Brewers Walked off for Just Second Time

Helena Brewers News Release

Missoula, MT - Only once prior to Tuesday night's game in Missoula had the Brewers been walked off on, and that was Opening Night in Great Falls. Tonight though the Osprey, who the Brewers had walked off on Sunday, had the last laugh. Alek Thomas singled home the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, winning 3-2. Helena now has two games left in their season.

Neither team scored in the first three innings, but in the top of the fourth the Brewers scored the first run in the strangest of ways. Pablo Abreu singled with one out, and Connor McVey followed with a single that advanced Abreu to second. They remained in those spots with two out, and on a pitch that was low and away to Luis Avila, Osprey catcher Nick Dalesandro threw to first to try and pick off McVey, but the ball hit McVey's helmet as he dove back into the back and bounced 50 feet down the right field line. Abreu scored on the play to make it 1-0 Helena.

Missoula though tied it immediately in the bottom of the inning, as a one out double from Eddie Hernandez scored immediately on a single from Brandon Leyton. Leyton got into scoring position on a ground out and moved to third on an infield single from Cesar Garcia, but Helena starter Caden Lemons punched out Jorge Barrosa to end the inning.

The Brewers retook the lead in the fifth on a two out single from Bryan Torres, but a second run was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. From their, the Osprey bullpen allowed just one hit over the final four innings, striking out nine Brewers. Helena as a club struck out a season high 16 times, eclipsing their previous total by two.

Lemons exited after five innings of one run baseball, striking out a career high seven. Sadly though got a no decision as the Osprey tied the game in the seventh as a Barrosa one out triple scored on a single from David Sanchez. In the ninth, Garcia singled to lead off the frame, and got to second with one out on a wild pitch. Thomas with two strikes and two outs singled into center, easily scoring Garcia and giving Missoula the win.

Tomorrow the Brewers play their penultimate game in franchise history against Missoula at 7:05 PM. Michele Vassalotti takes the ball for Helena, making his final start of the year.
