Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - The Pacific Coast League announced on Monday that Tacoma Rainiers left-hander Chris Seddon has been selected as the PCL Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 14-20.
Seddon, 26, turned in a combined 14 scoreless innings of work over one start and one relief appearance at Colorado Springs and Portland during that span, collecting wins in both outings.
The left-hander recorded a complete-game shutout at the Sky Sox on June 15, his second in his last three starts, after allowing four hits over nine innings with two walks and six strikeouts. Seddon followed the performance with five innings of scoreless relief work at the Beavers on June 20, allowing just four hits and fanning three.
Seddon is currently one of only two pitchers to have tossed more than one complete game this season and he now accounts for half of the league's four nine-inning complete-game shutouts in 2010.
Originally selected by Tampa Bay in the fifth round of the 2001 draft, Seddon is in his second season with the Rainiers after re-signing as a free agent with the Mariners organization in the offseason. The California-native is currently tied for second among all PCL pitchers with 14 starts and eight wins so far this season and carries a 3.43 ERA.
The weekly league award is the first garnered by any Rainier since right-hander Gaby Hernandez received Pitcher of the Week honors with Tacoma for the period of August 31-September 8, 2009.
