Veterans Bowker, Seddon Earn Weekly Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno Grizzlies outfielder John Bowker and Tacoma Rainiers starting pitcher Chris Seddon were named the Pacific Coast League's Player and Pitcher of the Week for June 14-20, the league announced Monday.

Bowker picks up the award in just his second full week in the minors this season, batting .360 (9-for-25) with four homers, three doubles, eight RBI and seven runs scored. Among players with at least 20 plate appearances during the week, he led the circuit in both slugging percentage (.960) and OPS (1.389). He also ran his hitting streak to 13 games, batting .400 (22-for-55) with six homers and 17 runs batted in during that span.

The left-handed hitter is no stranger to the PCL Player of the Week award, with back-to-back wins to his credit May 25-31 and June 1-7, 2009. In addition, Bowker claimed the 2009 PCL batting title with a .342 average for the Grizzlies. A third-round pick out of Long Beach State University in 2004, Bowker started the 2010 season as the San Francisco Giants' primary right-fielder, but was sent down on June 4 after hitting .207 in 82 at-bats at the Major League level.

Seddon dazzled in two appearances for the Rainiers this past week, tossing 14 innings without allowing a run. In a June 15 start on the road at Colorado Springs, Seddon became the first opposing pitcher in eight years to fire a nine-inning, complete-game shutout at Security Service Field, beating the Sky Sox 7-0. The four-hitter was his second shutout performance in 11 days, giving him two of the PCL's five nine-inning, complete-game shutouts this season.

The 6-foot-3 left-hander followed that up with five more innings of shutout baseball on June 20 against Portland, improving his record to 2-0 on the week and 8-3 on the season. He lowered his ERA from 4.14 to 3.43 over the course of the week, putting him in contention for his second-career Triple-A All-Star selection. In 2008, Seddon was named to the team as a member of the Albuquerque Isotopes.

The Pacific Coast League would also like to officially recognize the performance of Nashville starting pitcher Chase Wright, who had the best single-game performance of the season but was narrowly edged out by Seddon for the Pitcher of the Week award. On June 16 against Memphis, Wright allowed a lead- off single in the top of the first inning, but went on to record 27 outs without surrendering another hit.
