Chris Beck Promoted to Chicago

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- RHP Chris Beck, who has not allowed a run over his last three appearances with the Charlotte Knights (5.1 IP), was recalled by the Chicago White Sox today. Beck will take the roster spot of RHP Zach Putnam, who was placed on Chicago's 15-day disabled list. Charlotte's active roster is set at 24 players.

Beck, a native of Commerce, GA, is the 14th different player promoted to the Chicago White Sox this season from Charlotte. RHP Erik Johnson (April 19, May 5 & May 23), catcher Kevan Smith (April 24), RHP Miguel Gonzalez (April 25 & May 9), catcher Hector Sanchez (April 26), RHP Daniel Webb (April 27), infielder Carlos Sanchez (April 28), RHP Tommy Kahnle (April 29, May 5, May 23 & June 3), RHP Scott Carroll (May 6), LHP Matt Purke (May 13), outfielder J.B. Shuck (May 30), outfielder Jason Coats (June 4 & June 10), shortstop Tim Anderson (June 10), and RHP Michael Ynoa (June 14), are the others who have been promoted to the White Sox this year.

Overall this season, Beck is 4-3 with a 4.47 ERA in 15 games (seven starts) with the Charlotte Knights over 56.1 innings pitched. Beck, 25, has held left-handed batters to a .193 (16-for-83) batting average this season. Originally selected by the White Sox in the second round of the June 2012 First-Year Player Draft, Beck entered this season ranked by Baseball America as possessing the Best Changeup in the organization.

Earlier in the day, the Knights announced two other roster moves. Infielder Ryan Leonards was promoted to Charlotte from High-A Winston-Salem to take the roster spot of outfielder Leury Garcia, who was placed on the Temporary Inactive List. The Knights and Durham Bulls will continue their four-game series from Durham, NC tonight with a 7:05 p.m. game.
