CHL Names Summers Player of the Week

December 6, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings today announced that forward Matt Summers has been named the Oakley Player of the Week in the Central Hockey League. Summers, who scored a three-goal natural hat-trick in last Saturday night's 5-0 victory over the Wichita Thunder at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, is the first RiverKings' player to receive the award this season.

A natural hat-trick comes when a player scores three consecutive times without another teammate scoring a goal in-between the trio of goals. Saturday's feat was Summers' first RiverKings hat-trick.

Saturday's winning effort also completed a successful week for the 6-foot-2, 195 pound native of Savage, Minnesota, who finished the three games with four goals and six points. Mississippi was 2-0-1 during the week for five standings points.

Summers has scored eight points in his last five appearances for the RiverKings, who will bring a 10-10-1 record into Friday's road game at Bossier-Shreveport. Summers also has scored nine points (4 goals, 5 assists) in the team's last seven contests and for the season has ten goals and 15 points.

Matt is currently on a three-game point streak (4 goals, 2 assists) and earlier in the season had a four-game point streak (3 goals, 1 assist).

Summers' is currently tied for eighth in the Central Hockey League for goals scored with ten. He leads the RiverKings in goals scored and ranks fifth on the team for points.

In honor of Summers' accomplishment, Oakley will present a special gift to the RiverKings forward.

Following Mississippi's trip to Bossier-Shreveport Friday night, the RiverKings will return to the DeSoto Civic Center Saturday to play the Dayton Gems in a 7:05 PM contest. It will be a first for the Gems, one of the five former International Hockey League teams to begin play in the CHL this season.
