Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (8-11-2) continue their four-game home stand this weekend hosting the Allen Americans and Arizona Sundogs at the State Farm Arena. The Bees will look to reverse their recent fortunes playing one of the top teams in the league on Friday. Allen will be making only the second ever trip to the Hive on Friday night.
On Saturday night the Bees will look to excise their Sundog demons after Arizona completed a weekend sweep the previous Friday and Saturday. The Bees fell in a tough 4-3 loss on Friday before a 7-1 defeat on Saturday.
Blueliner Darcy Campbell has been a bright spot for the Bees as of late with 15 points in his last 10 games and seven points in his last five. Campbell leads all defensemen in the CHL in goals and points.
The Bees power-play has been finding the back of the net with strikes in five straight games and eight of the last ten affairs. The Bees have the third best power-play in the CHL scoring 20 of their 63 goals with the extra attacker.
BEES NEED TO KNOW
. Nick Sucharski joined the Bees the afternoon of their Nov. 26 tilt against Missouri. It was Sucharski's first game as a pro and he scored in his first game, during his first shift, on his first touch of the puck.
. Where'd the shootouts go? After competing in four shootouts and one overtime in their first 12 games, the Bees have not gone to extra time in their last ten games.
. Aaron Lee has joined elite company racking up over 100 career points with the Killer Bees, a feat reached by only seven previous players. In his career Lee now has 49 goals and 52 assists with the Killer Bees. The record is 192 held by Bill Newson.
. Zak McClellan, who was named captain at the start of the season, is one shorthanded goal from tying the all-time Killer Bees record of eight.
. The Killer Bees are two victories away from the franchise's 200th victory all-time, the Bees currently stand at 198 franchise wins in the teams eighth season of play.
. The Bees trail the Laredo Bucks seven points to five in the first-ever Cricket Mayor's Cup which is awarded to the team with the most points against the other.
