December 6, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

QUACK TRACKS

Splitsville

The Mallards earned a split of their weekend series in Rapid City. The Flock snapped a four-game losing streak by downing the Rush 5-4 in a shootout last Friday. The Mallards fell 2-1 the following evening.

Going the Distance Last Friday night marked the Mallards' first trip to the shootout this season. The Mallards have now gone on to win each of the three times they have finished regulation tied this season. Quad City had notched a pair of overtime wins before claiming the shootout victory last Friday night.

Narrow Margin

Each of the Mallards' last four games and 12 of their first 19 outings have been decided by one goal.

On the Road

Last Friday's win ended the Mallards' three game road losing streak. The Mallards this Saturday night will complete a stretch of five straight road games.

Special Teams The Mallards were a perfect 7-for-7 on the penalty kill in their two games in Rapid City last weekend. Last Friday the Mallards matched a club single game season high by scoring three power play goals (on four chances) against the Rush. For the season Quad City ranks ninth in the league on both the power play (18.0 percent) and the penalty kill (82.4 percent).

Rollin'

Center Mike McLean (8-13-21) last Friday night picked up an assist to become the first Mallard to reach 20 points this season. Last Saturday McLean added another assist to stretch his point scoring streak to five games (2-4-6). McLean has scored eight times and totaled 20 points in just his last 13 games. McLean leads the Mallards in both assists and points.

Obi on the Up

Left wing Obi Aduba (6-12-18) has nearly matched McLean's pace. Aduba has scored six goals and notched 17 points in his last 13 games.

A1

After another pair of sterling efforts over the weekend, Mallards goaltender Adam Russo now ranks third in league in save percentage (.934) and fourth in goals against average (2.24). Russo made 39 saves in regulation and overtime last Friday night- the second most shots he has stopped in a game this season- and turned aside 25 shots in last Saturday night's game.

Firsts

Defenseman Shane Lovdahl last Friday night scored his first goal of the season. Lovdahl also added two assists in that contest to lift his total for the evening to a personal career single game high three points.

Ins and Outs Mallards defenseman Adam Maccarone suffered a concussion in last Friday night's game and missed the following evening's contest.

Mighty Mavs

The Mavericks have gone unbeaten in regulation in their last four games (3-0-1) to move into a tie for second place in the Turner Conference. A 4-3 overtime loss in Tulsa last Saturday ended the Mavericks' three game winning streak. Missouri goaltender Rob Nolan ranks second in the CHL in goals against average (2.15). The Mavericks defeated the Mallards 3-2 on November 11 in Moline in the only prior meeting between the two clubs.

In Bloom Bloomington is currently tied for fifth place in the Turner Conference, but, having played fewer games than any club other than Fort Wayne, the PrairieThunder boasts the third best winning percentage in the conference. The Thunder has surrendered a league low 44 goals on the season. The Mallards have won two of their first three meetings with Bloomington.

Down to Earth

The Komets remain in last place overall. Fort Wayne suffered back-to-back losses last weekend after having won their prior three games. The Komets are the lowest scoring team in the league, having produced just 35 goals in their first 16 games. Defenseman Frankie DeAngelis is Fort Wayne's top point scorer (4-10-14). Like the Mallards, the Komets will play three games in three nights next weekend. Fort Wayne visits Wichita next Friday and Missouri next Saturday. While the Komets have won two of their first three meetings with the Mallards, Quad City won the only prior match-up between the two clubs in Moline.
