CHL MVP Finalist Returns to Wichita

Wichita, KS (January 11th) - The Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League announced today that forward Matt Robinson has returned to the team and will be in the line-up tonight as the Thunder take on Rapid City.

The seven-year pro began the year with the Alaska Aces of the ECHL, registering one goal and four assists in 17 games. Last season, the South Surrey, BC native led the team in goals (34) and was third on the team in points (58). Robinson had a terrific month of February with 12 goals, six assists, +11 and was named Oakley Number One Star for the month. He had four multi-goal games and scored five of his 10 game-winning-goals during February. He was also named to the CHL All-Star squad, where he tallied two goals and one assist. He recorded three straight game-winners that helped earn him Oakley Player of the Week Honors for the week of February 20th. Robinson was named as a finalist for CHL MVP honors at the end of the regular season.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound forward was acquired in a trade with the Laredo Bucks in 2010-11 and went on to lead the Thunder in goals scored with 39, earning team MVP honors. Robinson spent the first four years of his career at the ECHL level, beginning with a 21-goal campaign as a rookie for the Alaska Aces in 2006-07. He returned to Alaska the following year and scored another 19 goals and 18 assists in 58 games. Matt played three seasons of juniors, including two at the Major Junior level in the WHL from 2004-2006. Robinson scored 79 goals and 150 total points in 174 career junior games.

In other moves, defenseman Dave Inman has been placed on 7-Day IR and Todd Griffith has been moved from the 7-Day to the 14-Day IR.

Wichita will stay in Rapid City for a pair of games beginning tonight. The Thunder returns home on Friday, January 18th against the Tulsa Oilers before heading back out on the road for two games in Tulsa.
