Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush bounced back in a big way on Friday night, earning a 3-1 win over the Wichita Thunder on Military Appreciation Night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Goaltender Tim Boron turned aside 35 shots while Damian Surma, Jordan Behler and Scott Brannon provided all of the offense needed. The squads hit the ice again tomorrow at 7:05pm and tickets are still available through 716-7825 or gotmine.com.
The Rush have fared well this season when potting the game's first goal, and that's just what they did 5:03 into the opening frame. After a scramble at the side of the net, Winston Day Chief centered a puck to Damian Surma who poked in his 8th goal of the season. The lead lasted just over seven minutes until Andrew Martens blasted a slapshot from the high slot for his 3rd of the year.
Midway through the second period, the Rush regained the lead while on the powerplay on a goal from defenseman Jordan Behler who sent a wrist shot that caromed off a Thunder defender and in for the 2-1 advantage. Five minutes after, rookie Scott Brannon potted his 8th of the year on a strong individual effort that saw him beat a Thunder defender before roofing a backhand shot to the top-left corner. Brannon's goal lifted Rapid City to the 3-1 lead and eventual victory.
